Chaplains-of-the-Sea
In order to assist in addressing the spiritual needs of sailors who visit the Port of Brunswick, ISC Port Chaplains offer a ministry of presence. Religious leaders of all religions and denominations are available to lead worship sessions and offer pastoral support when needed, and this is the pool from which port chaplains draw. On a vessel, religious services can be held upon request. Chaplains are equipped to handle matters pertaining to daily well-being as well as religious or spiritual inquiries. All clergy are members of the ISC, and in the event that they are unable to handle a situation or require assistance, they can consult with national and international seafarers' centers for qualified counsel.
At our Newcastle center, seafarers can take advantage of a lovely chapel where they can read, pray, reflect in silence, or receive spiritual counseling. Additionally, the ISC provides free Bibles and Christian literature to sailors in more than 55 languages.
Mariners are also welcome to attend services at any of the numerous local churches in the Golden Isles. Service hours are found in local telephone directories or by calling the ISC. The Seafarers' Center makes every effort to provide or arrange transportation to and from church services when requested.
